Master of Business Administration in Accounting

The MBA (Accounting) programme is a two-year programme aimed at producing high-caliber Post Graduate Accountants. It is aimed at educating students to understand accounting as a service activity, and to generate financial information about economic activity that is intended to be useful in making economic decisions.

Objectives of the Programme

Students who succeed in completing the MBA (Accounting) programme will be able to understand :

  • The purpose of accounting
  • What accounting information is and the uses of accounting information
  • The difference between recording and reporting accounting information
  • The main fields of accounting and the type of work involved in each.
  • The purpose of an income statement of an entity, statement of financial position of a business entity, and statement of changes in owner’s equity.
  • The preparation of financial statements in accordance with appropriate accounting standards, interpret and communicate its business implications to all stake holders.

Admission Requirement

  • A good first degree with at least a 2nd Class Lower division in related field of study from an accredited institution. This includes BBA Accounting, BSc Accounting & Finance, BCom, Chartered Accountants from ICA-Ghana or ACCA-UK, CIMA-UK, etc.
  • In exceptional cases, applicants with 3rd Class Division who are already employed in programme-related fields, with relevant work experience and demonstrate capacity to cope with the programme may be considered for admission. Such applicants must write and pass a selection examination and an interview organised by the Graduate School.
